Silver jewellery, ceramics, textiles, batik and colourful landscapes feature in a six-day exhibition celebrating the natural world and the creativity of four local artists at the Old Fire Station Gallery.
Sometimes the most interesting creative sparks happen when different disciplines collide. Four local artists and craftspeople are bringing their individual talents together for Artistic Alchemy, a one-off exhibition.
From October 15th to 20th, the exhibition at the Old Fire Station Gallery in Henley will showcase silver jewellery, ceramics and sculpture, framed textiles and wall hangings, contemporary batik and vibrant acrylic landscapes.
Open daily from 10.30am to 4.30pm, it promises a feast for both the eyes and the fingertips.
The four – Helen Ormerod from Crowthorne, Wokingham based Karen Tomalin, Nina O’Connell in Caversham and Marlow’s Grant Forsyth – met through local arts trails and share a fascination with the natural world, landscape, geology, light, texture and the often-overlooked beauty on our doorstep.
For Helen nature finds its way into both sculptural and functional pottery. Her work ranges from pieces designed to complement gardens to bowls and vases for everyday use.
She particularly enjoys the unpredictable nature of glazing, where colours and surfaces can be transformed by the heat of the kiln, making every piece unique.
Karen creates free-style quilts and wall hangings inspired by the landscape. The changing face of nature is explored by Nina through acrylic painting and batik while jeweller Grant creates distinctive handmade chains and jewellery from reclaimed silver and gold.
