Our story

Round & About Magazine is the largest circulating free regional magazine, covering eight counties across southern England; Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire.

Established by Peter Savage in 1994, his vision was to create a magazine for readers by readers, delivered by the Royal Mail, ensuring maximum covering within each community. After working for most of his career in Fleet Street and in advertising agencies, he could see where publishing was going in the early 90s, and decided he could use his marketing knowledge to develop a better product with the community at its heart. We are delighted to be inundated every day by readers taking about their community events, fund raisers, school fete’s and sporting events, and this forms the heart of the magazine.

Now enjoying semi-retirement, the magazines are still in the hands of the family, directed by Chris Savage. From its original magazine in Wallingford & Didcot it has grown year on year, to 26 unique editions reaching some 538,700 homes EVERY month. As the world evolves we are delighted to say our magazines are still very much enjoyed and read month in month out, giving a voice for many small organisations and associations.

Who / What is Round & About?

Working at Round & About

Meet the managers

Chris Savage
I remember the early days of Round & About, from the study at home. Pretty soon after its launch an office was sought in Wallingford as the magazine prospered. My first job was working on motor racing magazines for Haymarket Publishing and I fell in love with print and magazines. After nine years in various publishing organisations the baton was passed, and during the highs and lows of the last nine years I’m delighted to see Round & About continue to grow. We have an amazing team, all passionate about producing the best community magazine we can. As a result we have a great product, always evolving, and I look forward to the next 10 years breaking new ground and taking on new challenges.

Luke Maitland
Sales Director
I started my career at the age of 21, selling advertising for a local newspaper before joining Round & About Magazine. I have been with the company since 2001 and now oversee the sales for the company. I’ve always wanted to work in media and for a company that works hard and takes pride in what it produces. I believe that a good sales team is vital in any business, and how that team interacts with our customers and how it portrays us as a company has to be of the highest standard. It’s something we strive every day to maintain. Outside of work, I have the amazing support of my wife, Heidi, step daughter Ellie, daughter Lucy and son Alfie.

Katie Williamson
Sales Manager
I began working for Round & About Magazine, seven years ago as a sales representative. Working for a family-run business means we are a closer knit team than most, we support each other, take pride in what we do and we’re a fun and vibrant team. We’re a hard working bunch who like to enjoy our reward time! Working here gives me plenty of job satisfaction, and on a personal note, I also found my future husband working here!

Magazines have been close to my heart since my teenage years (the days of Just 17) and, after a few different jobs after university, found myself studying newspaper journalism thanks to a bursary scheme up in Newcastle. Several newspaper jobs later, and after moving to Oxford with my daughter, I was thrilled to start here at Round & About Magazine with a huge number of titles, a friendly team to work with and too many ideas! Over the last three years, I have loved getting to know our readers better and working for a magazine that continues to grow in popularity and range. Bring on the next [email protected]
