The Cowshed Christmas appeal aims to bring festive joy to thousands of Berkshire children

Wokingham-based charity The Cowshed is calling on local people and businesses to support its Christmas appeal after providing more than 21,000 presents to over 3,000 children across Berkshire last year.

“You saved our Christmas.” For many families supported by The Cowshed, these words capture the difference the Wokingham-based charity makes at one of the most challenging times of the year.

Every Christmas, The Cowshed helps bring joy to thousands of children across Berkshire who might otherwise go without presents. Last year, thanks to the generosity of local residents, churches, schools, businesses and community organisations, the charity provided gifts for more than 3,000 children, distributing over 21,000 presents.

With the cost of living continuing to put pressure on household budgets, The Cowshed expects demand for its support to be even greater this Christmas. The charity is determined to do all it can to ensure that every child it supports has presents to open on Christmas Day.

Children are referred to The Cowshed by professional organisations, with parents sharing information about their children’s interests. This enables the team to choose thoughtful, personalised gifts that reflect each child’s age and interests.

For families already struggling to cover essentials such as heating, food and clothing, Christmas presents can feel out of reach. Donations to the appeal will help The Cowshed bring happiness, kindness and festive magic to children who might otherwise miss out.

Every gift is lovingly wrapped by the charity’s team of Christmas elves and placed in a handmade fabric sack, crafted by its dedicated craft group. The sacks are then delivered or collected in time for Christmas.

Families share the impact of the Christmas appeal

The difference this support makes is reflected in the heartfelt messages the charity receives from families.

One parent said: “It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for everything you’ve done for us. You’ve made a difficult situation so much easier. To be treated with dignity, compassion, and kindness has helped us in so many ways! I did not feel judged in any way. Thank you once again!”

Another parent described their reaction to receiving the gifts: “I was in tears!! You made our lives indeed. I still can’t believe we were lucky to get your support. My kids at different ages are all so happy with their gifts. We are so, so happy. God bless you so much for making our lives so happy.”

How to support The Cowshed Christmas appeal

The Cowshed team is already working hard to prepare for this year’s Christmas project, and donations from individuals and businesses will make a real difference.

Last year, the charity delivered Christmas gift sacks with a combined contents value of around £210,000 — an achievement made possible by the generosity of the local community.

As a small Berkshire charity, The Cowshed relies on this support to help families who need it most. Every contribution can help bring a little extra happiness to a child this Christmas.

To discover more about the impact of the appeal, read the charity’s Christmas Impact Report. You can also visit The Cowshed’s Christmas Shop to support the campaign with a donation, or purchase items through its Amazon Wishlist.

The Cowshed has also been chosen as Charity of the Year by Squire’s Garden Centre in Wokingham, providing another opportunity to raise awareness and support for its work in the local community.
