Carmina Burana concert brings young singers and powerful percussion together

DATE

A choir, emerging soloists from Trinity Laban and children from local primary schools will perform Carl Orff’s dramatic choral masterpiece, featuring the iconic O Fortuna, in a concert celebrating local musical talent.

Young local singers, emerging musical talent and a powerful percussion ensemble will take centre stage in an evening of drama, rhythm and unforgettable music.

Joining the choir will be talented soloists from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, alongside children from local primary schools, including The Holme. The concert will give young performers the opportunity to take part in one of the most celebrated works in the choral repertoire.

Best known for its thunderous opening chorus, O Fortuna, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana has become a fixture of popular culture. Featured in films, television, advertising and sports coverage, it remains one of the few classical works recognised far beyond the concert hall.

Beyond its famous opening, the work takes audiences on a vibrant, theatrical journey through themes of fate, spring, love, celebration and the unpredictability of fortune.

The programme will also feature complementary choral works, showcasing the choir’s versatility.

Rebekah Herz-Bauman, a singer and choral composer, said: “Many people recognise O Fortuna within the first few seconds, even if they are unfamiliar with the title of the work itself. It’s an incredibly accessible and infectious piece that has introduced generations of listeners to classical music, and it’s a fantastic work to experience live.”

Tickets cost £18.50 for adults and £10 for children under 12. They are available on the door or from luminosamusic.com.

A share of the proceeds will go to the choir’s chosen charity, Dogs for Autism.
