Peter Fennell of Dogmersfield Croquet Club invites you to pick up a mallet and have a go at croquet at the open day this month
Discover the Fun of Golf Croquet at Dogmersfield
Croquet often gains attention only when senior politicians play—but it’s actually a fast-paced, fun activity lasting just 30–40 minutes.
Learn on a Friendly Lawn
The Dogmersfield Croquet Club plays on a smaller lawn at the Four Seasons Hotel, ideal for beginners. Members get free equipment—just bring flat-soled shoes. In return, they occasionally help instruct hotel guests.
What Is Golf Croquet?
This simplified version of croquet emphasizes tactics over technique. You only need to accurately propel your ball through hoops. Games are sociable and fun. Players quickly get used to mallets, balls, and the thrill of hitting a hoop.
Inclusive and Equal
Golf Croquet is truly accessible: young or old, male or female, everyone competes equally. Britain leads the world in this sport, which mixes skill and strategy.
How the Game Works
Two, three, or four players contest the same hoop at once. Once someone scores a hoop, everyone moves on. Winning requires scoring seven hoops. Games typically last 30–40 minutes, and every player receives a skill rating. They can enter club tournaments or play friendly matches with other clubs.
Club Social Events
Weekly mix-in sessions offer casual play. Plus, there’s a “bring your own wine and nibbles” social after each game and other social events throughout the season.
Join the Club
Membership costs just £30 per year (April–October season) with a £10 joining fee. Newcomers are always welcome. To learn more or get started, come to our Open Day on Saturday, 23 August, 2–4 pm, or call our secretary Rowenna on 01252 616429. You’re welcome to visit at other times too!
