Adult volunteer Nigel Taylor tells us about Bucks Scouts & encourages you to get involved
Buckinghamshire Cub Scouts Experience High-Energy Weekend Adventure
Nearly 400 Cub Scouts (children aged 8–10) and 90 adult volunteers from across Buckinghamshire gathered for an action-packed weekend at a campsite in Chalfont.
Throughout the event, the children took part in a variety of exciting activities including archery, caving, circus skills, high ropes, pedal karts, tomahawk throwing, water rockets, and the thrilling 3G swing. After climbing to the top of the wall, Matilda shared her excitement:
“It was exciting to climb the wall, and you feel good getting to the top. I went on the 3G swing and the zip wire this morning.”
Amrees, Charlie, and Ethan also described their experience:
“We’ve never been on a 3G swing before, so we didn’t know what to expect. There was a moment of anguish when we got to the top and had to pull the cord. At one point, we were petrified, and that moved into enjoyment. We would definitely go on it again.”
Emma King, lead volunteer for Cub Scouts in Buckinghamshire, explained:
“When you see the children coming back from activities with huge smiles, you’re pretty sure you got it right. It takes an enormous effort from a dedicated team of volunteers to organise an event like this.”
Meanwhile, adult volunteer Nigel highlighted the need for support:
“With large waiting lists across Bucks, more volunteers are urgently needed. It’s a great opportunity to get involved in an organisation that supports children and young people aged four to 17.”
Graham, another volunteer, added:
“I joined as a volunteer about three years ago when my children joined. It’s great to see the children having fun!”
This memorable weekend showcased the energy, community spirit, and teamwork that Cub Scouts encourages across the county.
