His Majesty The King visits OXCCU to see sustainable aviation fuel innovation

Earlier this month, His Majesty The King visited OXCCU at Begbroke Science Park, gaining a first-hand look at the pioneering work of the Oxford University spin-out developing sustainable aviation fuel from waste carbon.

On Friday 27 March 2026, OXCCU, the company advancing novel catalysts and processes to transform waste carbon into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), welcomed His Majesty to its laboratories at Oxford University Science Park.

Joined by The Lord-Lieutenant of Oxford, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow, the royal visitor met the team and learned more about the company’s innovative research.

During the visit, His Majesty observed a live demonstration of synthetic e-fuel production from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. He engaged with the OXCCU team on the potential of sustainable aviation fuel to reduce aviation emissions, strengthen industrial resilience, and produce sustainable chemicals and plastics.

OXCCU has developed a direct, one-step process for converting waste carbon into jet-fuel-range hydrocarbons, suitable for upgrading to SAF. The company launched its first demonstration plant, OX1, at London Oxford Airport in 2024 and is progressing its second plant, OX2, as it works towards commercial-scale production by the end of the decade.

Andrew Symes, Co-Founder and CEO of OXCCU, said: “It was a profound honour to welcome His Majesty to Begbroke and share the groundbreaking work our team is doing. This visit provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the importance of translating laboratory innovation into real industrial impact.”
