Meet the Lightwater baker bringing sweet treats straight to your door

Cakes, muffins, cookies, scones and pies – which will you choose from Teresa Lindley’s new online First Slice bakery?

Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I would certainly class myself as a local – I’ve lived in Lightwater for almost 23 years and was born in Windlesham, all of two miles away.

I live with my husband, Trevor and retired almost two years ago, having worked for Waitrose for many years in several roles, including heading up the bakery buying team and, most recently, working as UK Trading Director at bp, with responsibility for bp’s petrol forecourt shops.

What about shops or local businesses – where do you like to shop?

We are fortunate to have a good selection of shops in Lightwater. It’s wonderful to have an independent butchers in the village. George Arthur have a great in-store team and stock high quality, locally sourced products which inevitably mean that we go in for a specific item and come out with much more than originally intended … and never regret it.

What are your favourite local pubs or restaurants?

A. We love No.15 in Chobham and have celebrated many happy occasions there. In addition to the wonderful food and service, the garden is absolutely beautiful, the perfect setting for a relaxing summer lunch.

We also really enjoy the food and atmosphere in La Sorrentina in Sunninghill.

Are you a member of any local groups?

I volunteer at The Hope Hub in Camberley, cooking lunch for service users.

I really enjoy supporting a great charity and as an added bonus, it gives my husband a few hours break from me each week!

What do you love about where you live?

Being able to walk out of my front door, down the road, straight into Lightwater Country Park. Walks in the park with our six-year-old Spaniel Bailey are wonderful throughout the year although I have to admit that my husband walks her every day while I’m more of a fair-weather dog walker.

What highlights are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?

I have just opened a new online bakery business, called The First Slice – find us at thefirstslice.net – and I’m looking forward to seeing which products customers most enjoy and to developing the offer, introducing seasonal products.

The range of 29 cakes, muffins, cookies, scones and pies are inspired by some of the incredible recipes I have come across working in the industry and are ideal for people who don’t have the time to bake, or don’t want to, but who are looking for freshly made, high quality cakes and desserts.
