Free screening of the National Emergency Briefing heads to Abingdon

A free community event in Abingdon this September invites us to explore the latest climate science & discuss how we can make a difference.

As conversations around climate change continue, a community event aims to unite people to better understand the challenges ahead – and, vitally, to explore what can be done locally.

Abingdon Carbon Cutters (ACC) invite us to a free screening of the National Emergency Briefing on Wednesday, 16th September, at Abingdon Baptist Church in Ock Street, OX14 5AG.

Beginning at 7.30pm, the evening will combine a thought-provoking film with an open discussion about practical steps communities can take in response.

Coming after another period of unusually hot summer weather, the event offers an opportunity to hear about the latest climate science in an accessible and engaging way.

The National Emergency Briefing (visit nebriefing.org) has been shown across the UK, helping explain both the scale of the challenges and practical actions closer to home.

Following the screening, attendees will be invited to share their thoughts and ideas in a friendly, informal discussion. Organisers hope the evening will encourage people from all backgrounds to consider how Abingdon can respond together, whether through everyday lifestyle changes, local initiatives or simply by learning more.

Abingdon Carbon Cutters have been working for a number of years to inspire local action on climate change through talks, workshops, projects and community events. The volunteer-led group believe meaningful change happens when people work together and support one another in making sustainable choices.

The event is open to everyone, regardless of their level of knowledge or experience. Whether you’re already involved in environmental projects, curious about the latest scientific evidence or simply looking to hear different perspectives, organisers say the evening is designed to be welcoming, informative and constructive.
