The Green Hub Project for Teens, which supports young people through gardening and nature-based activities in Milford, Witley and Godalming, has been chosen by Squire’s Milford branch for support.
Teenagers struggling with their mental health will get a helping hand thanks to their local Squire’s Garden Centre.
The Green Hub Project for Teens based in Milford, Witley and Godalming supports young people by getting them outdoors enjoying gardening and nature-based activities. The project has been selected by the Milford branch.
“It really is a perfect match – we both believe in the power of gardening and getting your hands in the soil to make people feel better,” said Green Hub co-founder Vanessa Lanham-Day.
“Understanding the critical connection between nature and mental wellbeing is central to us both.” She added the funding will be invaluable in “helping us to continually expand our outreach to the local community in our five local ‘teen gardens’.”
With fundraising events already lined up, Vanessa added: “Another great opportunity is the scope it gives us to meet with local parents, grandparents, mental health and schools professionals – all people we need to connect with so they know what we do for local teens.”
Milford Centre Manager Rupert Sleight said they were looking forward to working with them and they chose the Green Hub for “their connection to horticulture and absolute belief in its merits for wellbeing, and their tremendous energy and passion for what they do”.
Local charities benefited by £23,577 thanks to the efforts of teams at the 17 Squire’s Garden Centres through last year’s programme.
