On the 13th & 14th September you can spend a weekend with King Henry VIII at West Horsley Place and experience living history, food and fun

Step Back to Tudor England with Henry VIII

Step back in time at the Henry VIII Festival, returning to West Horsley Place this September for a weekend of jousting, feasting, falconry, and Tudor revelry. This unique event recreates King Henry VIII’s visit in 1533 and promises fun for the whole family.

Uncovering Tudor Secrets at West Horsley Place

Last year, West Horsley Place Trust teamed up with Exeter University and Historic Royal Palaces to uncover the manor’s Tudor past. The estate was once a royal residence owned by King Henry VIII. He visited often for lavish parties. In fact, Queen Elizabeth I stayed there six times.

A Living History Festival Like No Other

This festival recreates Henry VIII’s visit to Henry and Gertrude Courtenay, Marquess and Marchioness of Exeter. Visitors can enjoy authentic Tudor food, clothing, jewelry, weaponry, music, archery, and hawking. The event uses archival sources, including the original banquet menu.

Activities for All Ages at West Horsley Place

You can watch thrilling jousting displays and try Tudor dancing. Taste the King’s banquet and chat with experts in historic costume. Food and drink stalls will be available, along with fun activities like archery, mini-jousting, shield painting, and Jester School.

Support Historic Conservation with Your Visit

Tickets cost £25 for adults and £10 for children aged 4 to 16. All proceeds help conserve West Horsley Place, which is on Historic England’s Heritage At Risk register.
