Dragons descend on The Lexicon Bracknell for a summer of free family fun

Animatronic dragons, interactive trails, story sessions and creative community art are bringing a touch of fantasy to The Lexicon Bracknell, with free activities for families throughout the summer.

Step into a world of fantasy as five impressive animatronic dragons take over the town centre in the free, family-friendly event.

You’ll also be able to see 10 beautifully designed dragon eggs created by local secondary schools and colleges in partnership with Daler-Rowney. Visitors can follow the trail, including a 1.6-metre-tall LEGO® dragon at Fenwick, to discover them all.

Sue Boor, Head of Marketing at The Lexicon, said: “We’re delighted to bring Dragons at The Lexicon to Bracknell this summer. With a packed programme of free activities for all ages and the chance to win a share of prizes worth £1,000, we can’t wait to see visitors discover the dragons and enjoy everything the event has to offer.”

Follow the dragon trail every day to discover all the dragons and hidden eggs across town, hop aboard The Lexicon Express transformed with colourful dragon scales, pick up a Rymans colouring sheet, and receive your very own dragon crown, take part in the Snap, Tag & Share competition, including a photo opportunity on the giant dragon deckchair and enjoy exclusive offers throughout the town.

On Tuesdays enjoy meet-and-greets with roaming dragon characters at intervals throughout the day and take part in dragon-themed face painting for all ages on Wednesdays, while on Thursdays, sit back and listen to bookable dragon storytime sessions in Princess Square’s dragon lair.

As part of the event, you can buy a crocheted dragon keyring, handmade by local community organisation Crafting Smiles, together with a jar of The Lexicon honey from Brown Bag in Bracknell as part of a £7.50 bundle. All proceeds will support The Lexicon Charity Fund.

Dragons aren’t the only addition to The Lexicon recently with the unveiling of four sculpture bases reimagined by local primary school children as part of The Remake Project, a community initiative highlighting the importance of reusing everyday materials.

Pupils from Winkfield St Mary’s, The Pines, Holly Spring and Ascot Heath redressed the former sculpture bases to create colourful displays, using materials destined for landfill that were donated by members of the public, parents and retailers at The Lexicon.

The finished sculptures are on display in the unit between Mango and River Island, inviting visitors to see how discarded items can be creatively repurposed instead of thrown away.

Mick Conway, Environmental Services Manager at The Lexicon, says: “The Remake Project has been a great way to bring together creativity, sustainability and the local community. We hope the sculptures encourage visitors to think differently about the value of reusing everyday materials.”
