Alanah Wyatt is continuing her family’s butchery heritage with the opening of A&G Whites Butchers at Squire’s Wokingham, while encouraging more young women to consider a career in the industry.

A fourth-generation butcher is carrying on her family’s proud tradition while hoping to inspire more young women to enter the trade.

Alanah Wyatt, part of the family behind the Porky Whites business, has unveiled A&G Whites Butchers at the food hall at Squire’s Garden Centre in Wokingham, where customers can shop for a wide range of fresh, local and speciality foods.

Alongside continuing her family’s butchery heritage, Alanah is working towards her Level 2 Butchery qualification at Plumpton College, a leading centre for land-based education and viticulture. She is passionate about preserving traditional butchery skills and introducing them to a new generation.

During her time at Plumpton, Alanah and her family also helped develop the college’s own Plumpton Sausage, which is enjoyed by students and sold through the college.

Alanah said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have opened A&G Whites Butchers at Squire’s Wokingham. As a fourth-generation butcher, I feel incredibly proud to be continuing my family’s tradition whilst bringing my own ideas and personality to the business. I’m also proud to be a female butcher and hope I can inspire other young women to consider a career in this fantastic industry.

“Our aim is to offer customers the very best of a traditional butcher’s shop, with a modern twist. Whether it’s expert advice, cooking inspiration or exceptional quality products, I look forward to welcoming customers and helping them discover everything we have to offer.”

A&G Whites Butchers is open daily except Mondays at Squire’s Garden Centre in Wokingham.
