Let Normandy Cricket Club bowl you over, writes Chris Jones about his club
Normandy Cricket Club is an idyllic location for a Saturday drink while watching some high-level cricket. This is a club that has begun to create something quite special within the local area.
What started as a way for cricketers to play the game socially in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere has evolved, in just a few years, into competing for a place in the Surrey Premier League Champions: quite an achievement!
The Surrey Championship Premier League is widely regarded as the strongest club cricket competition in the country, so winning this is no mean feat. Competition in the league is rife, with many clubs having a large colts catchment area due to their London locations. However, a strong colts section has bred a 1st XI littered with players with both County and International experience meaning Normandy is now a force to be reckoned with in the league.
As the colts section grows and trophies continue to come for the baby-faced 1st XI, one can only hope for a sustained period of success for the club. It remains strong in its values of cricket for all and enjoyment both on and off the pitch. Socially, the club thrives as colt’s parents and supporters join together, in comfort on the bar stools to order another round of drinks.
Opportunities to be part of the club are great and there really is something for everyone down at Hunts Hill Road. From coaches to players to social members to ground assistants, the club likes to have as many helpers as possible to help add to the club.
For colts especially, there are many opportunities to get involved. In recent years, the club has reached near-full capacity on the colts section. Local coaching company PDSports has made more cricket sessions available so everyone in the area who wants to, can participate. They offer Easter and summer camps to both Normandy and non-Normandy members and aim to really capture the special atmosphere of Normandy Cricket Club with their professional coaching staff.
